Toshiba X300 12TB Performance Hard Drive (HDWR51CXZSTA) — 7200 RPM CMR for Gaming & Creative PCs

Fast, high-capacity desktop storage for gamers, creators and power users.

The Toshiba X300 12TB (HDWR51CXZSTA) is a 3.5-inch SATA performance hard drive for gaming PCs, desktop workstations and home media computers. CMR recording, a 7200 RPM spindle and a 512MB cache give large libraries quick access, while the helium-sealed design keeps power and noise low.

Why Large Libraries Need a Fast CMR Desktop Drive

Game installs, 4K video footage and RAW photo archives fill an SSD quickly. Many buyers add a high-capacity hard drive for bulk storage, but slower 5400-class drives and SMR models can make large copies and project loads feel sluggish, especially when writing a lot of data in one go.

The X300 12TB addresses that with a 7200 RPM spindle and CMR recording. Each track is written independently, so sustained writes, such as copying a full game library or offloading a day of camera footage, stay consistent rather than slowing as the drive’s cache fills.

7200 RPM Performance with Toshiba Cache Technology

A 512MB cache and Toshiba Cache Technology manage how data is buffered between reads and writes, which shortens response time when launching games, scrubbing video timelines or browsing large photo catalogues stored on the drive.

Helium Design for Lower Power and Noise

The helium-sealed enclosure reduces drag on the platters, keeping power at 6.85 W operating and 3.3 W active idle and idle noise around 20 dB. A shock sensor and ramp loading technology protect the heads and stored data, and the drive is rated at 600,000 hours MTTF.

Setup Instructions

How to Install the Toshiba X300 12TB in Your PC

1. Shut down the PC, switch off the power supply and unplug it before opening the case.
2. Mount the X300 in a free 3.5-inch bay using the case’s screws or tool-less tray.
3. Connect a SATA data cable to a free SATA port on the motherboard and a SATA power cable from the power supply.
4. Boot the PC, open Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS), initialise the drive with GPT so the full 12TB is usable, and format it.
