Description

High-density 10G for Nexus 7000 aggregation and core layers.

The Cisco N7K-M132XP-12 is a 32-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet M1-Series I/O module for Nexus 7000 Series chassis, using SFP+ optics and an 80 Gbps fabric connection. It suits data center aggregation and campus core networks that need dense 10G ports with full Layer 2/Layer 3 features on Cisco NX-OS.

Adding 10G Density to an Existing Nexus 7000

Data center and campus cores built on the Nexus 7000 often run out of 10G ports as servers, storage and access switches move to 10G. Replacing the chassis is costly and disruptive, while adding a separate switch adds another layer to manage.

The N7K-M132XP-12 adds 32 SFP+ 10G ports in one chassis slot. It connects to the chassis fabric at 80 Gbps; in shared mode, groups of four ports share bandwidth for maximum density, while dedicated mode gives one port per group full line rate for uplinks or heavy flows.

Because it is an M1-Series module running Cisco NX-OS, it supports features used in large networks, including virtual PortChannel (vPC), Layer 3 routing and, on supported releases, OTV and MPLS.

Shared and Dedicated Port Modes

Ports are arranged in groups of four. Shared mode allows all 32 ports to be active with 4:1 oversubscription, suited to server access. Dedicated mode activates the first port of each group at full 10G line rate for eight non-blocking ports.

Hot-Swappable in a Running Chassis

The module can be inserted into a running Nexus 7000 chassis, so capacity can be added without a full outage. Use supported Cisco SFP+ optics such as SFP-10G-SR or SFP-10G-LR.

How to Install the Cisco N7K-M132XP-12

  1. Confirm your Nexus 7000 chassis, supervisor, fabric modules and NX-OS release support the N7K-M132XP-12.
  2. Wear an ESD strap, remove a blank slot cover, and slide the module into the I/O slot until the ejector levers lock.
  3. Verify the module comes online with “show module”, then insert SFP+ transceivers and connect fiber or DAC cables.
  4. Set each port group to shared or dedicated rate mode as needed, configure interfaces, VLANs, vPC or routing, and save the configuration.
