Key Value Highlights

  • 48 Gigabit Ethernet ports + 4x 10G SFP+ uplinks – Wire-speed 10/100/1000 access for every connected device, with 10G uplinks that remove the bottleneck between this switch and your core or server.
  • 176 Gbps switching capacity, 130.94 Mpps – Non-blocking forwarding, so all ports can run at full speed at the same time without dropped frames.
  • Layer 2 managed with web UI, CLI and SNMP – VLANs, QoS, 802.1X, port security and link aggregation without needing a Cisco license or controller.
  • Stack up to 8 switches – Manage up to eight Catalyst 1000 switches through a single IP address as your port count grows.

Description

Business-grade Cisco switching for 48 devices.

The Cisco C1000-48T-4X-L is a 48-port Gigabit Ethernet switch from the Catalyst 1000 Series, with four 10G SFP+ uplinks. It is built for high-density wiring closets and office floors that need Cisco-grade Layer 2 management, security and reliability without enterprise licensing costs.

Why Unmanaged and Consumer Switches Fall Short in a Business Network

An unmanaged switch connects devices, but it gives you no control over who connects, how traffic is prioritized, or what happens when a cable loop takes the network down. As an office grows, those gaps turn into broadcast storms, open ports anyone can plug into, and no visibility when users report slow connections.

The C1000-48T-4X-L adds the controls a business network needs: up to 256 active VLANs to separate staff, guest and device traffic; IEEE 802.1X and port security to block unauthorized devices; Spanning Tree to stop loops; and QoS so voice and video traffic are handled first. It does this on Cisco IOS-based software, so configuration is familiar to any network technician.

Performance stays predictable because the switching fabric is non-blocking: 176 Gbps of capacity and a 130.94 Mpps forwarding rate cover every port at line rate, plus the uplinks at 10G.

10G SFP+ Uplinks for Fast Core and Server Connections

The four SFP+ ports run at 10 Gbps, so traffic from all 48 access ports can move to a core switch, NAS or server without the uplink becoming the bottleneck. They also accept 1G SFP modules if your core is not 10G yet.

Stackable Management for Growing Networks

Up to eight Catalyst 1000 switches can be stacked through the uplink ports and managed as one unit from a single IP address. That keeps configuration consistent across a closet and saves time when you add ports. The 1RU 17.48-inch-wide chassis fits a standard 19-inch rack.

How to Set Up the Cisco C1000-48T-4X-L

  1. Mount the switch in a 19-inch rack using the rack-mount brackets, leaving the side vents clear, then connect power.
  2. Connect your uplink to the core switch or router through an SFP+ or SFP module, then cable your end devices to the Gigabit ports.
  3. Open the web UI from a browser (or use the console port and CLI), set an admin password and management IP, and update to the latest Cisco firmware.
  4. Create VLANs for staff, guest, voice and device traffic, enable Spanning Tree and port security, and save the configuration.
