The Cisco Meraki MG21E-HW-NA is an LTE Cat 6 cellular gateway that delivers up to 300 Mbps over 4G, with two Gigabit LAN ports, 802.3af PoE power and external dipole antennas. It provides primary or failover WAN for branches, retail sites and temporary locations.

Why Sites Need a Dedicated Cellular Gateway

A single wired internet line is a single point of failure. USB modems plugged into routers are hard to position for good signal and difficult to manage across many sites.

The MG21E separates the cellular radio from the router, so it can be mounted where signal is strongest, such as near a window or high on a wall, and powered by PoE over one Ethernet cable from the network closet.

Managed in the Meraki dashboard, it shows signal strength, carrier and usage, and receives firmware updates automatically, which simplifies cellular WAN across many locations.

Flexible Placement with PoE

Because it is powered by 802.3af PoE (or a 12V adapter), the gateway can be placed up to 100 m from the switch. Its IP67-rated enclosure suits harsh indoor environments.

External Antenna Option

The MG21E includes a dipole antenna pair with reverse SMA connectors, and supports an optional Meraki patch antenna for better reception in difficult locations.

How to Set Up the Cisco Meraki MG21E

1. Claim the gateway in the Meraki dashboard and insert an activated SIM card.
2. Find a location with strong cellular signal and mount the gateway, attaching the external antennas.
3. Connect a PoE switch port to the gateway and connect its LAN port to your MX, router or switch WAN interface.
4. Verify signal and connectivity in the dashboard, then configure failover or primary WAN on your router.
