Deep-Dive Story & Problem/Solution
Keeping Legacy SCSI Systems Running
Many manufacturing, medical, telecom and financial systems still depend on parallel SCSI hardware that is costly or risky to replace. When a drive fails, finding a compatible replacement quickly is the difference between a short repair and a long outage.
The Cheetah 10K.7 146GB matches the interface, connector and capacity used in many of these systems, so a failed drive can be swapped and the RAID set rebuilt without redesigning the server.
Ultra320 SCSI, 68-Pin Connector
The 68-pin wide connector plugs directly into Ultra320 SCSI cables and backplanes, and the interface is backward compatible with earlier wide SCSI controllers.
10K RPM Server Performance
The 10,000 RPM spindle provides the responsive random access that legacy database and application servers were designed around.
Setup Instructions
How to Install the Seagate Cheetah 10K.7 146GB
- Note the SCSI ID and termination settings of the drive being replaced.
- Set the same SCSI ID (and termination, if required) on the new drive using its jumpers.
- Install the drive on the 68-pin SCSI cable or backplane and secure it in the bay.
- Power on and let the SCSI RAID controller rebuild the array, or configure the drive in the controller BIOS.
