The HPE P18434-B21 is a 960GB SATA 6Gb/s Mixed Use SSD in a small form factor Smart Carrier for ProLiant Gen9 and Gen10 servers. With higher write endurance than read-intensive drives and HPE firmware validation, it suits databases, logging, caching and virtualization.
When Read-Intensive Drives Wear Out Too Fast
Databases, transaction logs and caching volumes write steadily all day. Read-intensive SSDs used in these roles can approach their endurance limits early, forcing unplanned replacements.
The P18434-B21 Mixed Use SSD provides roughly three times the daily write endurance of read-intensive drives, with HPE qualification and Smart Carrier hot-plug support for ProLiant Gen9 and Gen10.
Endurance for Mixed Read/Write Workloads
Mixed-use endurance and enterprise firmware keep latency consistent under constant writes, so databases, logs and VM storage stay responsive over years of service.
Pre-Mounted Carrier for Fast Hot-Plug Service
The Smart Carrier shows drive activity and a ‘do not remove’ warning, helping technicians avoid pulling an active drive and breaking an array. The drive arrives ready to slide into a compatible bay, reducing installation time and mistakes.
Setup Instructions
How to Install the HPE P18434-B21 SSD
- Confirm your ProLiant model supports this drive and carrier type in the HPE QuickSpecs, and update the server firmware with the Service Pack for ProLiant.
- Insert the drive into an empty SFF bay until the carrier latches; hot-plug is supported, so the server can stay powered on.
- Open Smart Storage Administrator or the iLO storage page to confirm the drive is detected and healthy.
- Create a new logical drive, add the SSD to an existing array, or use it as a replacement for a failed drive.
