The WD_BLACK SN850 1TB with heatsink (WDS100T1XHE) is a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD with an integrated heatsink and RGB lighting. It reads at up to 7,000MB/s and writes at up to 5,300MB/s, making it a strong upgrade for gaming PCs without motherboard M.2 heatsinks and for the PS5.

Why Older Motherboards Need a Heatsink SSD

Many motherboards, especially older or budget models, have no M.2 heatsink. Gen4 drives in those slots can heat up during long transfers or gaming sessions and throttle, losing much of their speed.

The SN850 WDS100T1XHE includes its own heatsink, so it keeps cool regardless of the motherboard. It is also compatible with the PS5 expansion slot, giving you flexibility to move the drive between PC and console.

How to Install the WD_BLACK SN850 WDS100T1XHE

1. Power down and unplug your PC or PS5, and ground yourself.
2. Choose an M.2 2280 slot with enough clearance for the heatsink (check GPU and cooler clearance on PCs).
3. Insert the SSD and secure it with the M.2 screw; close the PS5 bay or PC case.
4. Format the drive via the PS5 prompt or initialize it in Windows Disk Management.
