The Arista PWR-500-DC-F is a 500W DC power supply module for Arista switches installed in DC-powered facilities. It accepts -40V to -72V DC input, uses forward (front-to-rear) airflow and is hot-swappable. It suits carrier, telecom and data center operators running -48V DC power plants.
Powering Switches in -48V DC Facilities
Telecom central offices and many carrier data centers distribute -48V DC instead of AC. AC-only power supplies cannot run in these sites without inverters, which add cost, heat and points of failure.
The PWR-500-DC-F connects directly to the DC plant, accepting -40V to -72V DC. That removes the need for conversion equipment and lets Arista switches run on the same battery-backed DC power as the rest of the facility.
Forward Airflow for Standard Cold-Aisle Layouts
The -F suffix means forward airflow: cool air enters at the port side and exits at the power supply side. Match it to switches with forward-airflow fans to keep the cooling pattern consistent.
Hot-Swap Redundancy
With two PSUs installed, the switch continues to run if one fails. The PWR-500-DC-F slides into the bay and locks in place, restoring redundancy without a maintenance outage.
Setup Instructions
How to Install the Arista PWR-500-DC-F
- Confirm your Arista switch supports PWR-500-DC-F and uses forward-airflow fans, then switch off the DC breaker feeding the replacement bay.
- Remove the failed module by releasing the latch, and slide the PWR-500-DC-F into the bay until it locks.
- Connect the -48V DC feed and return leads, plus the ground, to the DC terminals with the correct polarity and torque.
- Switch on the DC breaker, check the PSU LED and confirm the supply status with “show environment power” in EOS.
