The Intel Xeon W-2265 (QS) is an Intel Xeon W-2200 processor built on Cascade Lake-W (14nm), with 12 cores, 24 threads, a 3.5 GHz base clock and up to 4.6 GHz turbo. It uses the LGA2066 (Socket R4) socket, supports DDR4-2933 ECC memory (4 channels (up to 1TB)) and is designed for professional workstations used for rendering, simulation and CAD.

The Xeon W-2265 provides 12 cores and 24 threads, quad-channel DDR4-2933 ECC memory up to 1TB, and 48 lanes PCIe 3.0 for multiple GPUs, NVMe drives and capture cards. Turbo Boost Max 3.0 lifts its fastest cores up to 4.8 GHz for lightly threaded modeling and CAD work.

It drops into LGA2066 workstations built on the Intel C422 chipset, making it a cost-effective upgrade for systems such as the Dell Precision 5820, HP Z4 G4 and Lenovo ThinkStation P520.

The Xeon W-2265 balances core count and clock speed. Turbo Boost raises individual cores up to 4.6 GHz when workloads need responsiveness, while all 12 cores work together on parallel tasks such as virtualization, backups and compiling.

ECC Memory, AVX-512 and 48 PCIe Lanes

ECC memory protects long-running renders and simulations, AVX-512 and DL Boost accelerate scientific and AI workloads, and 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes support multiple GPUs and NVMe drives at full bandwidth. How to Install the Intel Xeon W-2265 (QS)

1. Confirm your system board uses the LGA2066 (Socket R4) socket with the Intel C422 chipset, and update the BIOS to a version that lists the Xeon W-2265 as supported.
2. Open the two socket retention levers in the order marked on the socket, lift the load plate, align the notches on the Xeon W-2265 with the socket keys, and lower it straight down. Close the load plate and both levers.
3. Apply thermal paste and mount an LGA2066-compatible cooler or server heatsink rated for 165W.
4. Install ECC memory following the board’s channel population guide, power on, confirm the processor and memory are detected in the BIOS or BMC, then install your operating system or hypervisor.
