Shadows and Glare Are the Real Classroom Projector Problem

When a standard projector sits at the back of a room, the teacher or presenter stands directly in its light path. The result is a shadow across the content and glare in the presenter’s eyes every time they turn to face the room.

The W318ST places the projector close to the screen. With a 0.52:1 throw ratio, it sits about 3 feet 8 inches away for a 100-inch 16:10 image, either on a wall mount above the board or on a cart in front of the first row. The presenter stands behind the beam.

Native WXGA resolution matters here too. Most laptops output a 16:10 picture, and a matching 1280 x 800 DLP chip shows it pixel-for-pixel, which keeps small text in documents readable.

How to Set Up the Optoma W318ST

1. Position the projector about 3.5 to 4.5 feet from the screen or whiteboard, on a wall mount, ceiling mount, or cart.
2. Connect a laptop by HDMI or VGA; add an Ethernet cable if the room is managed over the network.
3. Power on, adjust the focus ring, and apply vertical keystone if the image edges are not parallel.
4. Set the display mode to Presentation or Bright and switch to Eco lamp mode when the room can be dimmed.
