The ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi is an ATX motherboard for Intel LGA 1700 processors (12th to 14th Gen). It combines an 18+1 power stage VRM, DDR5 up to 192GB, PCIe 5.0 graphics and storage, five M.2 slots, Wi-Fi 6E and Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet. It targets enthusiast gamers and creators.

Built for Unlocked Intel Processors Under Sustained Load

Core i9-13900K and 14900K processors can draw very high current when boosting. Boards with smaller VRMs heat up and pull back clock speeds, so you do not get the performance you paid for.

The ROG Strix Z790-E uses an 18+1 power-stage design with large heatsinks, so it holds steady voltage during long renders, compiles and gaming sessions. Combined with the Z790 chipset’s CPU and memory overclocking, it lets unlocked processors run at their rated limits.

PCIe 5.0 and Five M.2 Slots

The primary x16 slot runs at PCIe 5.0 from the CPU. Storage includes one PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slot and four PCIe 4.0 x4 slots (one also supports SATA), plus four SATA 6Gb/s ports. Note that the Gen5 x16 slot drops to x8 when the Gen5 M.2 slot is populated.

Networking, Audio and USB

Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.3 and Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet handle connectivity. The rear panel includes a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20Gbps) Type-C port and multiple 10Gbps ports. ROG SupremeFX 7.1 audio uses the Realtek ALC4080 codec with a Savitech amplifier, and Aura Sync RGB lighting is supported.

How to Install the ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi

1. Install the LGA 1700 processor, DDR5 memory (A2 and B2 for two sticks) and M.2 SSDs before mounting the board.
2. Mount the board in an ATX case and connect the 24-pin ATX, both 8-pin CPU power cables, front-panel, USB-C and fan headers.
3. Install the graphics card in the top PCIe 5.0 slot, attach the Wi-Fi antenna, and power on into the UEFI BIOS.
4. Load the XMP profile, update the BIOS via EZ Flash or BIOS FlashBack, and install drivers from ASUS support or Armoury Crate.
